Thank you Robert T. for your timely reply. Taking the time to search for my ancestors, and then the time to provide a historic narrative of where they were from was greatly appreciated - as were the corrections of the order of given names, and the spelling of Sauerwein.
How did you discover that St. Goarshausen was their place of birth? They may have also been married there (?) before leaving Germany in 1854. Incidentally, my Jost (Yost) family were Protestant - Lutheran.
Do you have any suggestions on how I might research the parentage, or ancestors of Christian and Catharina? It would be desirable to quote sources, such as church or civil records.
I am impressed with you command of the English language. Since I have none for the German language, correspondencw has been one of my difficulties.
