Robert,
thank you for your response full of useful information. Anna Maria Klug was my grandfather's grandmother, whom I'm sure he never met since his father, who emigrated to St. Louis, never returned to Germany. It is interesting to see that 9 out of 10 people in Deidesheim were in the grape-growing, wine-making business but both my great-grandfather and my grandfather worked at breweries in the US. Family talk is that he was brought over as a brewmaster for Anheuser-Busch, but I contacted the company and they have no records that go back that far on past employees.
There are many Klugs (and also some Stahls) in Deidesheim and I was trying to determine if this Anna Maria could be one of three who were born within the years that would make her the right age to be marrying my great, great grandfather. The marriage record from St. Ulrich's Church does not say what town she was from. Were there civil records from the 1800s as well, or just Church records?
I will contact the institute you recommended. Thank you.
