Thank you so much for the information!! The marriage certificate doesn't show the "umlaut" over that a in Schaffer, but I don't know if the Americans would've used it. The spelling I have from my dad and uncle is SCHEFFER. They also told me her parents names were Sibilla OWISS and Garrit Jan SCHEFFER (and I'm not sure if this is her birth father or step father). I thought "Goblenz" and "Koblenz" were one in the same, but this is how it was found on the 1920 census. I hope to get there next spring when we make our way to Germany. I'll have to see if my uncle or aunt have a copy of my grandmother's citizenship papers to see how things are listed there.
