My great great grandfather Bernhard Scherr (spelling change to "Benhard Share" in USA) was born 12 MAR 1819 in Diedesfeld, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany to his parents Johann Scherr and unknown wife. Bernhard married Magdalena Brauer on 28 NOV 1848 in either Diedesfeld or Maikammer, Germany. Their oldest son "Friedrich" was born 29 AUG 1851 in Diedesfeld, Germany. Bernhard and Magdalena and son Friedrich left for America (unknown ship or port of departure) and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1853. The family moved on to St. Louis, Missouri and later on to Dubuque County, Iowa, where they lived for five years. Seven more children were conceived with two dying at or near birth; John Share was born 09 DEC 1856 (he was my great grandfather); Joseph Share was born 15 APR 1858; Charles Share was born 15 AUG 1862; Lucy Share was born 04 DEC 1864; and George F. Share was born 27 JAN 1865. The family moved to Marengo, Iowa in 1859 and then later settled permanantly on a farm (homeplace) located just south of Belle Plaine, Benton County, Iowa. Bernhard (Benhard) Scherr (Share) died in 1877 and Magdalena (Magdaline) Brauer Scherr (Share) died 12 JUN 1902. Burial plots for most all of these family members are located in the Koszta Cemetery, located just outside of the town of Koszta, Poweshiek County, Iowa. I am looking for information on the family in Germany any help would be greatly appreciated. I understand that the Brauer and Scherr families would have been considered to be Palatines at that time. Thanks, Tim Newberry in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona....
