Ludwig Iskenius Family of Flammersfeld.
Hi,
I am trying to find the ancestors of Ludwig Iskenius and wife Anna Katharina (Hovel) Iskenius of Flammersfeld, Prussia, which I believe is located in the Westfalen (or Westphalia) "district", 20 miles or so from present day Bonn, Germany...........but have run into a brick wall.
I know that Ludwig was reverand of the Reformed Church of Flammersfeld from 1668 to 1699, and that he attended the Hohe Schule at Herborn, though I'm only guessing that this was some sort of seminary or religious school.
I also know that Ludwig was born about 1637........supposedly in a town called Neunkirchen, Prussia, and Anna is rumored to have been born about 1640 at Kirburg, Prussia.
I have seen a transcript that says he and Anna were married September 27, 1663 at Evangelisch, Unna, Westfalen, Prussia........and Ludwig's name is garbled by the transcriber as "Ludo Vicus Ernestus Isrenius".
Their daughter, Catherina Elizabetha Iskenius, married Johannes Huberich Clements at Flammersfeld about 1695, and they are my great-grandparents many, many times removed.
Rumored ancestors of Ludwig are father, Conrad, b. about 1608 at Zeppenfeld, Prussia; grandfather Rupert, b. about 1578, Prussia, though I have no idea if this is accurate or not, and no further information about Anna's ancestors at all.
There is a very interesting little book of correspondence letters from when Catherina Elizabetha came to America, but there are no names mentioned earlier than Ludwig and Anna, and that is what I am hoping to find.
If anyone has heard of this family, or has a clue as to how to learn more, I'd much appreciate hearing from you as I am not familiar with names and locations in Prussia, which makes getting around or over this brick wall even more challenging!
Regards,
Rod
