WOW! You have answered all my questions and helped me to move on hopefully in the search for my gr-gr-grandparents...Thank you so much. I have put off looking for these two branches of my tree thinking with all the wars and the changes of borders etc. that I would never be able to find records. Especially since I have only English language in spite of my great grandparents speaking German, Polish and probably Russian and Lithuanian also. Grandpa Porsch insisted everyone speak only English but Grandma (Otremba) Porsch spoke whatever language anyone else spoke with her and I believe I understood her at one time when I was very young although I didn't actually learn to speak either German or Polish. I know she spoke very little English and yet I remember her telling me stories of her family and the homeland. My father told me Grandma only knew a few words of English.
