Hi Susanne - Thank you for your reply.I think you are right that the "A" (actually it looks more like "Ac" ) means that he was a Protestant.Almost everyone is listed as "C" under religion. I would think that it was unusual for a Catholic girl to married outside her religion back in 1837.Hopefully that means it was a love match.
I am pretty sure that, since this was a Catholic church, that it is written in Latin.The fact that I can actually figure out what most of the words mean also makes me think it is Latin.One column is titled "Status ars et conditio vitae patris"Could this be the occupation of the father?Under this title it says "suton or sutor".Could this have anything to do with shoemaking as that is what their son did in America?
If you would like to take a try at reading the document, I would be happy to send to you to see.However, I must forewarn you that I found it on microfilm and the library did not have a copier.Therefore, all I have is a tracing I made from the film.It would come in two parts - One of the titles on the columns and the other with the hand-written entries.It is confusing!
