Does anyone have Platzke or Von Hohenfels in their family ancestry dating from 1850 to 1900?
Word of mouth story on our great grandfather Herman Wilhelm Plazke, born 1880 near Gdansk, Poland (Prussia). He may have been born with a Von Hohenfel last name. He was saved from being killed when the child was given to an aunt who was a Platzke. At 12 years of age Herman joined a ships crew and went to sea for a number of years. About 1900, he 'jumped ship' in Florida, USA, and made his way north to Darien, Georgia, where in 1902 he married Esther Wallace. Later he moved to Maryland for work. He died in Maryland. We only have his Georgia and Maryland history.
