Passenger Records:
SS Ohio, sailing from Hamburg on 3 April 1923
Franz Erlhoff, aged 29, married, can read and write German and English, last of Berlin, gives his wife, Ellen(?) in Duisburg as his next of kin; bound for Hampstead, New York (to a friend, Fred Nokerlin); previously in the US from 1914-1919; born in Krahwinklerbruk
SS Vaterland, sailing from Southampton on 28 June 1914:
Franz Erlhoff, aged 20, clerk, last of Duisburg, gives Carl Erlhoff (no relationship given) of Duisburg as his next of kin at home; bound for uncle in San Francisco and another name (hard to read) in Hampstead, New York. Looks like place of birth given as Dusseldorf.
SS Rotterdam, sailing from Rotterham on 29 September 1926:
Frank Erlhoff, aged 32, married, merchant, born Duisburg, American citizen (travelling on an American passport); last residence in the US in Detroit; gives his mother, Mrs. C. Erlhoff in Duisburg as his next of kin at home; bound for home, c/o Fred Burton Co., Detroit.
He is accompanied by his wife, Ellen, aged 26, born in Berlin, and daughter, Dorothy, born 19 July 1924 in Detroit.
He was naturalized in California in 1940.
In 1927, I find a passenger record for a Richard Hoeing arriving in Boston, aged 23, single, born Duisburg, bound for his cousin, Frank A. Erlhoff in Detroit. Father's name is Aloys Hoeing.
In the German Gazetteer available at Ancestry.com, I find a Kraewinklerbruede (or spelled with umlauts over the A and the U), Radewormwald, Kreis Lennep which today is near Remscheid. On the Google map, I find a Krawinkel on the Wuppertalsperre (Wupper Dam) which is likely the right place.
