Donna, you can forget "family crest"!There was no such thing in Germany or Austria as a "family crest"! What are passed off in the U.S. and Canada as "family crests" are fraudulent, and the people who perpetrate the fraud make money off of gullible North Americans who know no better and fall for it -- (as most North Americans not only do not speak the language, but also haven't a clue about the history of the countries).
Coats of arms were granted only to individuals, individuals who had performed some kind of extraordinary service, not to families.
A couple of weeks ago over on the Austria board, I gave you the link to a website and I will give you the link here again:
