I somehow get the feeling that you might not be aware that just like the U.S., Germany, too, has always been made up of STATES.HESSE-KASSEL (old spelling: Hesse-Cassel) was a STATE, its capital the city of KASSEL (old spelling: Cassel).WALDECK, which bordered on Hesse-Kassel, was a STATE, its capital the city of AROLSEN -- (officially recognized as a spa in 1997, the city is now called BAD AROLSEN).
You talk about going from town to town?Well, there were roughly 1650 cities, towns, and villages in the state of Hesse-Kassel!Waldeck was a very small state. There were maybe about 120 cities, towns, and villages in Waldeck -- but still. So if you're thinking of going "from town to town", as you put it, you certainly have your work cut out for you!
I will add here that the former Hesse-Kassel and the former Waldeck are two of the five components that make up today's new post-World War II German state of HESSE (in German: Hessen).
And yes, not knowing the town in Germany is a definite dead end.So you are going to have to do further research in the U.S. and find out the town. There are records available that should include that information.
I will also mention here that there is no such name in Germany as "Morris".That's an English name.I'm assuming that you probably mean MORITZ.Am I right?
