Hi Robert,
You may want to send a letter to the "Standesamt" in Kiel asking for "Personenstandsurkunden".
The "Standesamt" is the office where they keep familyregisters in Germany. Since 1874 each town has to have those. So if you want to find cousins and none is responding try this. If you are lucky you don`t even have to pay for the information (I was lucky but it was a different town).
These documents give you exact names, birthdates, marriages (if they married in Kiel) and deathdates. The parents are on that, too. Mostlikely with the place where they were from. If you order more than one document it might get cheaper.
