Tiffany, you must be referring to Zimkendorf (with an "f", not a "k", at the end).Zimkendorf is a small village located in the western part of what was until 1945 the Prussian province of Pomerania (in German: Pommern), the capital of which was the city of Stettin.Almost all of Pomerania was given to Poland following World War II and the original German inhabitants expelled. However, most of Pomerania west of the Oder River remained German and is one of the components of today's German state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (in German: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) up on the Baltic Sea.
Zimkendorf is no longer an independent village.Today, Zimkendorf is part of the town of Pantelitz, a town of about 725 people, located only about 5 miles west of the city of Stralsund.
When you say "vital records", how far back are you going?I ask, because the Kingdom of Prussia did not introduce the civil registration of births, deaths, and marriages until 1874.If you're going back earlier than that, all that would be available would be church records.
