I just found the above surname LUNDKURKEN listed as my gg gm's maiden name on the death certificate of one of her daughters. An early census listes Mary LUNDKURKEN KEALs' birthplace as Hannover. She married Bernard KEAL/KIEL/KUEHL (usually known as KEAL) sometime before the 1840 Louisville KY census; in that one their first child is three and she was born in KY. Bernard died before the 1860 census. I believe they were Catholic.

Unknown whether they married in Germany or US. They died before census required immigration date.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has encountered the two surnames....KUEHL (sp) or LUNDKURKEN?
