Ship's journey from Bremen

Does anyone know how long it took to travel by ship from Bremen to Baltimore? I have an ancestor who left Germany in 1841 and arrived at the port in Baltimore. Can someone shed some light on what the port in Bremen was like then and why ships left from there?

Any insight would be appreciated.
