I am intereted in communicating with anyone who has GROH or BOLING ancestors from BREMEN, GERMANY and the surrounding area.

my great grandfather, GEORGE GROH (the son of Conrad Groh) was born December 14, 1857 in Connefeld, Province of Hessen-Nassau, Germany, and died May 12, 1930 in Bremen, Germany. He married HILKE CATHARINA BOLING October 15, 1887 in Bremen, Germany, daughter of GERRITS BOLING and ANNA EILERS. She was born August 04, 1859 in Hattersum, Eastern Fresia, Germany, and died February 16, 1941 in Arsten, Germany.

George and his wife both came independently to Bremen because they wanted to immigrate, most probably to the US. They met in Bremen, married and stayed there. George was a painter by profession, and he and his wife opened a painter's shop. They were both very entrepreneurial and hard workers. After having saved enough money they bought a 'Gaststätte', a kind of restaurant were people also meet to have drinks and dance in the evenings. This Gaststätte was in the Föhrenstrasse in Bremen. The building is not there anymore
