Westermayr and Hoeber from Bavaria
My GrGrGrandfather, Edward Westermayr, was born in 1830 in Nürnberg. He marriedSophia Hoeber(Heber), who was born in Straubingin 1840. They had four sons, Edward Jr., born 1857, Robert John (my grGrandfather) born 1858, Alfred, born 1862, and Arthur J., born 1865. Robert John was born in Ratisbon, so there’s a good chance they were all born there.
Edward with his family, and servant Emma Huttner, is enumerated in the 1870 Census for the 17th Ward of Chicago, Cooks Cty, Illinois, with a likely immigration date of 1868. I have fairly good information on the family from here on.
Our family has a doctor of Philosophy and Medicine diploma from Ingolstadt University dated Aug 1766 for Joannes Evangelista Westermayr. I also have two pencil sketches, unsigned, of soldiers who by their uniforms seem to have been ~1840 bavarian troops. Family lore has been that Edward brought his family here to avoid his sons' conscription. My suspicion is that the sketches were drawn by Edward’s father, who was in the military and was a son of Joannes, the doctor.
I have found a large family of Westermayrs in Neustadt Donau, Niederbayern, which is in the right vicinity. One son is Joannes, christened 18 Jun 1747. This seems rather young to be getting a medical degree in 1766.
I would appreciate very much any help filling in the blanks with these Westermayrs, and also any information on Hoeber (Heber)s of Straubing.
Thank You,
Rick
