Gary, let's put it this way:The Baden message board is as close as you will come here on GenForum.Unterheinriet is not located in Baden.UNTERHEINRIET is located in neighboring WÜRTTEMBERG -- or if written without the "Umlaut" (two dots) over the "U", WUERTTEMBERG -- its capital the city of STUTTGART.It amazes me that GenForum has no Württemberg (Wuerttemberg) message board, in view of the fact that such a very large proportion of German-Americans descend from immigrants from Württemberg (Wuerttemberg). It simply baffles me.It always has.
To be sure that you're aware of it, just like the U.S., Germany, too, has always been made up of STATES.We've been talking here about the pre-1945 southwestern German state of BADEN, its capital the city of KARLSRUHE, and the pre-1945 southwestern German state of WÜRTTEMBERG (WUERTTEMBERG), its capital the city of STUTTGART.
I should mention here that Unterheinriet is no longer an independent town.Back in 1974, Unterheinriet was annexed by the nearby town of UNTERGRUPPENBACH.So today, Unterheinriet is a section of Untergruppenbach.Untergruppenbach is a town of about 7600 people today, of whom about 1700 live in Unterheinriet. The nearest big city, by the way, is HEILBRONN.I will add here that Unterheinriet was about 45% destroyed in senseless and pointless American air raids during World War II.
Although Unterheinriet is not located in Baden, Sachsenhausen is!Sachsenhausen is located in northeasternmost Baden.
Back in 1972, the town of SACHSENHAUSEN was annexed by the nearby city of WERTHEIM.So today, Sachsenhausen is a section of Wertheim. It is thus correctly referred to as WERTHEIM-SACHSENHAUSEN.You have the names reversed.Wertheim is a city of about 24,000 people today, of whom about 550 live in Sachsenhausen.
Church records are THE primary source of family information in German genealogy. If you tell me the religious denomination of this family, I may be able to advise you further.
And again:Unterheinriet in Württemberg (Wuerttemberg), Sachsenhausen in Baden.
Robert
