When they were neighbors they lived on White Street. I have an old picture of my grandmother, her brother, sisters and Mrs. Gerloff's children standing next to a Christmas tree. The tree was outside in the back yard. Apparently my greatgrandmother was afraid it would catch fire (they used candles to light the tree). So it is outside decorated with strings of popcorn. I've always wanted to make a Christmas Card from this picture!
I would have to go back through and find the letters but my great grandmother wrote to my grandmother when Mrs. Gerloff passed away to let her know. I believe it was the early to mid 1970's. Was her husband's name William? Did he work for the railroad? Well as I said I am not kin to Mrs. Gerloff, but my grandmother talked often about her and I was just really curious. Are any of her children still living? My greatgrandmother's name was Verna Griffin-Weiss and her children were Mildred "Mil", James "Jim", Margaret, Beverly "Pete", and Grace "Muggins".
