George & Helen Doughty Gerald E Fel parish LA
A Doughty 1/02/02
Since my last posting I have discovered new evidence that Helen Doughty's husband's first name is alternately listed as GRANVILLE and as GEORGE.
The census does not make this any easier. He is George C. in 1850, GRANVILLE in 1870 and G.C. in every other year.
However the list of children remains the same:
SAMUEL R., b. 1847 or 1848
NASH OGDEN or Ogden Nash. b. 8/31/1851
AlEX B. 1855
GEORGE B 1859
Timothy R b 1862
Davey b 1864
Clifford b. 1869
Whether he is shown as George or as Granville, his middle initial is always Cfor Clifford.
My grandmother, Velma Folsom Gerald (b. to Samuel R and Leila Holmes in 1890) said in her handwritten notes that her grandfather was Granville.Velma also had a brother named Granville Clifford Gerald. Based on these two facts, plus another family's tree which shows a GLANVILLE born to Dr. Samuel Gerald and Elizabeth Norman in 1818 (the right year and the right parents), I am inclined to accept that my great greatgrandfather was GRANVILLE C. Gerald, and that this is the correct name of Helen Doughty's husband.
