I can tell you that many of the "gerealds" living around Cave City Ky were actually named Fitzgerald.
Some began to drop the Fitz
If you research the earlier Fitzgerald family, such as James and Lydia, who came from Tennesse, you may find who you are looking for.
In the Tn 1870 (sullivan cty) census James and Lydia are shown as having George, william, Margaret, Thelma, James and Samuel. They moved to Ky and one of Williams' sons lived at Cave City. William married a Doyel. The letter I have from the early 1900s shows that some people addressed the envelopes dropping the Fitz. However William Fitzgeralds' line (mine) has never dropped the Fitz.

One of James uncles, Randolph Fitzgerald, moved to monroe cty KY by 1850.James father may have been George, Randolphs' brother.

Stephanie Fitzgerald
