Rawls and Garrell families in SC
The Willis Rawls who appears in the 1800 Census for Kingston Co., SC,
which became Horry Co., SC in 1801, is not the same Willis Rawls who
went to Hopkins Co., KY as some researchers claim.Willis remained
in Horry County where he appears again in the 1810 Census for Horry
Co., SC listed as Willis Roles. He next appears in the 1820 Census
for Horry Co., SC as Willis Rawls.Living nearby is John Rawls, Jr.,
the son of John Rawls who was living near Willis in the 1800 census.
The following two references show Willis Rawls may have married
Marguerite Garrell, the daughter of James and Mary Garrell.I
believe the first record below may be in reference to the estate
of James Garrell who died in 1798 and the sellers are his sons
and son-in-laws.Marion County borders Horry County and both were
once part of Georgetown District.
