I have traced my family back to Tuam as far back as the late 1700s.I'm away from home and my records, but I believe it was a Michael Geraghty who lived on what was then Sun Street is the first name I have.My father's father was born in Bingley, England. It would appear that his father was a weaver of worsted and was recruited by the English to work in their mills. The family emigrated later and settled in BOSTON, MA, where I still have cousins.I'm stumped by a reticence of the current Geraghtys to assist in my search for information on the family living here, but want to find out as much as I can about those who left and came here.My great-great(?) grandfather was Michael. He and his wife had MANY children, among them a Thomas.I was in Tuam a year or so ago and met Eamonn Geraghty who has a menswear store and he said "Everyone named Geraghty is related".We have an interesting background from my research, though we may not be related in a direct line.Have you been to Tuam?It is a beautiful little town.I plan to go back next spring (God willing).I would love to hear from you about your studies of the family Geraghty.Right now, I'm without my research and even my own computer, but as of March 15th I will be settled in a new apartment and all my "things" will be "about me" and I can backtrack any info I've collected. The Galway Genealogy Society is very cooperative and so are the churches.(PS: My family when they arrived in the US somehow ended up with a change in spelling which makes it hard for me - GERRAUGHTY - and my mother and father both managed to leave me with that spelling even though they themselves changed theirs to GARRITY.Be interesting if you are from another branch of the family. If not, let's still compare notes about the Geraghtys and Tuam.I'm steeped in Tuam history and I love it.
