Descendants of David Yawn
FIRST GENERATION
1. David YAWN was born in 1796 in Orangeburg District, South
Carolina. He died in 1848 in Appling County, Georgia. David
Yawn was in the 1810 census of South Carolina; he was in the 1820
Appling Co. GA census; in 1827 won land lottery 124 Dist., 20
Sec., 1 and in 1832 won land lottery lot 1079 Dist. 2 Loc. 4; he
was in the 1840 census Appling Co. GA Served as private in
Juhan's Battalion of the SC Militia during the War of 1812.
About 1815 moved to Montgomery County near Spring Hill. Move
to Handtown Community in present day Jeff Davis County GA.
David drew land in the 1827 GA Land Lottery and the 1832 GA Gold
Lottery. Appling Co. GA Probate Court Est. of David Yawn, 1856
return, 1857 return, pgs. 78-79, Nancy Yawn Admixr, 113 head of
cattle , 2 lots of land (recorded July 15, 1857). Pages 148-149
Est. of David Yawn - June 1st 1858, 1 lot of land #356 (2nd
Dist), lot of land #355, 100 head of cows, signed July 5, 1858

Nancy QUINN was born in 1802 in North Carolina. She died in Jeff
Davis County, Georgia. 1850 Appling Co. GA census indicates
Mathias Quin, age 23, was in the household of wid. Nancy Yawn
(age 48, b. NC) Sept. 14, 1866 Nancy Yawn,Lewis Yawn, Emlia
Yawn, and Margarett Yawn sell all lot 355 eastside of Mill Branch
containing 100 acres to Hampton Quin. David YAWN and Nancy QUINN
had the following children:
2 i. Houston YAWN was born in 1830 in Appling County, Georgia.
Census may indicate Hamilton age 20, b. GA
3 ii. Emily YAWN was born in 1833 in Appling County, Georgia.
Appling Co. GA Real Estate sales 1891 Emily Yawn sold 100 acres,
lot 355, for $100.00. Sept. 14, 1866 Nancy Yawn, Lewis Yawn,
Emlia Yawn, and Margarett Yawn sell all lot 355 east side of Mill
Branch containing 100 acres to Hampton Quin. Living with mother
in 1850 census.

+5 iv. Margaret YAWN.
+6 v. Calvin YAWN.
7 vi. David YAWN Jr. was born in 1842 in Appling County,
Georgia. He died about Oct 1862 in CSA. Elected to the Appling
Grays. Subject to military duty on March 4, 1862. 11th Batln
GA Inf. Co. F GA Vol. Army of Tenn. Appling Rangers. 47th
Reg GA Inf. Co. F PVT March 4, 1862 transfer Co. F, 47 on May
12, 1862. Died of disease subseq. to Oct. 1862.

9 viii. James A. YAWN was born in 1846 in Appling County,
Georgia. Age 4 in 1850 census Appling Co. GA
SECOND GENERATION
4. Drucilla YAWN was born in 1836 in Appling County, Georgia.
She died in 1924 in Jeff Davis County, Georgia.
Arthur RAY Sr. was born in 1835. He died in 1908.
5. Margaret YAWN was born in 1837 in Appling County, Georgia.
Sept. 14, 1866 Nancy Yawn, Lewis Yawn, Emlia Yawn, and Margarett
Yawn
sell all lot 355 eastside of Mill Branch containing 100 acres to
Hampton Quin.
Calvin Quinn ELLIS (son of John ELLIS and Bathsheba HATTON) was
born in 1848 in Appling County, Georgia.
6. Calvin YAWN was born in 1839 in Appling County, Georgia. He
died on 2 Jun 1863 in Savannah, Georgia. Calvin Yawn age 11 in
1850 Appling Co. GA census. Age 21 in 1860 census. 4 March
1862 subject to military duty. PVT 29 Apr 1862, 11th Batn GA Inf
Co. F. Transferred to 47th Regt. GA Inf. Co. F on 12 May 1862.
Died in Gen. Hosp. #1 at Savannah, GA on June 2, 1863. September
16, 1860 Calvin Yawn sells his 1/6 part of lot 356 (490 acres)
and lot 355 (490 acres) to Hampton Quin, Appling Co. GA
Anna SHUMAN (daughter of Ruel SHUMAN and Margaret Rebecca TESTON)
was born in 1834 in Beaufort District, South Carolina. Calvin
YAWN and Anna SHUMAN had the following children:
10 i. Calvin YAWN Jr. was born in 1863 in Appling County,
Georgia.
8. Lewis YAWN was born in Apr 1844 in St. George Parish,
Effingham Co., Georgia. He died about 1900 in Appling County,
Georgia. CENSUS 1900, age 56, b. Apr 1844 living in Appling Co.
Ga . Sept. 14, 1866 Nancy Yawn, Lewis Yawn, Emlia Yawn, and
Margarett Yawn sell all lot 355 east side of Mill Branch
containing 100 acres in inherited land from David Yawn to
Hampton Quin. Lewis Yawn elected to Appling Grays on 6 July
1861. 47th Regt. GA Inf. Co. F, PVT. July 31 1862. Present
Oct 1862 but no other CSA record. Lewis Yawn will dated Nov. 6,
1893. Estate settled 19 Aug. 1901. Exctr Piety Yawn. Heir
Simon Yawn.
He was married to Piety WILCOX (daughter of George WILCOX and
Nancy HALL) in St. George Parish, Effingham Co., Georgia. Piety
WILCOX was born on 25 Nov 1848 in St. George Parish, Effingham
Co., Georgia. She died on 31 Mar 1914 in Jeff Davis County,
Georgia. CENSUS 1900, age 51, b. Nov 1848 living Appling Co. Ga.
REF: Ward's History of Coffee County GA pg. 54 Piety Wilcox (dau.
of George and Wilcox) married Lewis Yonn. Lewis YAWN and Piety
WILCOX had the following children:
