Hi,
I'm just about ready to hire a professional genealogist on this guy. I've been researching him for over 15 years and I still cant find his father or proof of where he was born or his mother, Lydia (Andrews) Carter.
This is what I have....
Marriage License: James Thompson Cray Carter to Mathilda Catherine Pope, 11 Sept 1877 in Linden, San Joaquin Co., CA.
Death Certificate: James C. Carter, D: 18 Mar 1916 in Lodi, San Joaquin Co., CA., name of father and mother and where they were born is all "unknown".
Death Certificate of his sister: Elvira Ruth (Carter) Eddlemon, parents "unknown".
Many Census reports (1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910) where he or his sister or their mother, Lydia (Andrews) Carter, are listed but all of Lydia's and her "Unknown" husbands birth places are all different.
I cant find them on the 1850 Census and so I'm starting to think the father died before then? I'm also starting to think that they were living either on Indian Territory near Oklahoma or a whole other state? I've also noticed that Lydia has spelled her name several different ways like Lidu, Liddy, Liddia and so on.
Lydia's age has also changed dramaticly over the years. She was 102 at her death on 11 Aug 1897 born in Kentucky. She was 50 in 1860 born in Georgia. She was 79 in 1880. Cant find her on any 1870 because I believe that is the year they migrated to California.
I have a lot of other documents as well and if ANYONE can help I would very much appriciate it?
