Ivy family of Georgia connection to Ivy S. Alphin of North Carolina?

My family has been trying to track down the parents of our ancestor, Ivy S. Alphin, who was born in North Carolina in about 1814 and died in Tennessee. I noticed that there is a Josiah Alphin whose grandmother was Mary Ivy (I think she was born in the 1700s in Georgia). Mary married a McDonald and one of their children married an Alphin. I was wondering if this could be a connection by which the name "Ivy" came into the Alphin family as a first name. Unless I've got my dates mixed up, I judge that Ivy and Josiah would have been too close in age for Josiah to be Ivy's father. But, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the connection between the NC Alphins and the Ivy family. Maybe, this would shed some light on who Ivy's parents were.

Does anyone have any information about this connection?

Thanks,
Elizabeth Alphin Mundie
