Thanks for the info. Cleburne did not become a county until after the Civil War in 1866. My Russell George was in Benton Co (now Calhoun) at least as early as 1853 when he married there. In 1860 he was at New Bethel in the upper NW part of the county near what is now Gadsden. Who were Catherine George's parents and siblings? The Court House did not burn in Calhoun Co. Most of the Court House records though were placed in a railroad car and shipped to Talledega for safekeeping. The railroad car was burned by the Union troops in the rail yard, destroying the records. The 1844 Tax list was out of the Court House at the time being bound and is one of the few records that survived.
