According to the Christ Church records, available online at
http://www.archive.org/stream/parishregisterof00chri/parishregisterof00chri_djvu.txt
Full text of "The parish register of Christ Church, Middlesex County, Va., from 1653 to 1812"

a Catherine "Tompson" died in Middlesex County "March ye 31. & was buried April ye 3. 1726".

I believe this was Catherine (Twyman) Thompson, and that John then married Susannah George on January 9, 1727 or 1728.
