The father of Robert George was James George, born 1764-1784 and died 1826.
He appears in the 1810 and 1820 Census in Garrard Co. KY (the basis for my inference about his birth year). The October 1826 Garrard County Court appointed commissioners to appraise his estate, and his inventory was recorded in October 1827.
He married Elizabeth (Robertson) Letcher January 29,1799 in Mercer Co., KY. According to the Buford Geneaology, Elizabeth Robertson was the widow of Archibald Letcher, with whom she had a son, Alexander. James and Elizabeth had 5 sons and 4 daughters that I am aware of.
The earliest court records of James in Garrard Co. are in 1805 and indicate that James was a carpenter who had apprentices, that he acquired property in the center of Lancaster, the county seat, and some land elsewhere in the county.
I have never succeeded in finding the parents of James George, although I have often speculated about a connection to the George family of Goochland Co. VA. I have also been unsuccessful in finding out anything about James D. George, who married James George's daughter, Susan, who was my great (3) grandmother. I have additional information about the Robertson family that I would be happy to share.
This family is near and dear to me, and I have never found anyone else related to them. I have spent a lot of time trying to track them forward and backward. Many of them who did not die in KY or MO before the Civil War wound up in Texas.
