Sorry...I didn't get the e-mail list. There is a good possibility that some of the names you mention may be related. My genealogy is on my computer at work, so I can't check the names right now. My maternal grandfather (b. 1909) remembers his grandmother, Catherine George Knoedler, living with them, and said that she spoke mostly German. Some of the surnames in her ancestry are: Lobenstien, Schmanch, Deigel. I'll make a print-out and post it to you next week. I know that g-g-grandmother Catherine was born in Augusta County, Virginia. Her parents, I believe, came there from Germany, so she was probably first-generation in this country.
