I have a fairly close Ydna match to Several of the last name of GENTRY and to my knowledge none of my relatives (of a different surname) came from VA as the Gentry's seem to have come from. In searching out some of our proven Ydna ancestors in NC, I found living a few pages over from them, a Clayburn GENTRY who was age 45 & over 1 male under 10 1 male 10-15 1 female 26-44 1 female 15-25 and 3 females ages 10-15 all living in 1800 Salisbury, Stokes Co., NC. When I searched for info on this man here on this site I saw the name of Clayburn GENTRY married to a MAXWELL lady, but it appears they never left VA. Does anyone know who this family is in Salisbury, NC then? Just trying to figure out where and perhaps how my family name is tied to the GENTRY's and I fully suspect is from what FTDNA calls a "non-paternal event" (a Gentry woman had a son by a "John Doe" but gave that son her family name of Gentry thus upsetting the ydna outcome). If anyone has further info on this Clayburn Gentry I would be most interested. Thank You. Notify Administrator about this message?
