Are you sure your Elizabeth Beverly (Gentry) was a daughter of David Gentry. In the 1860 census for Wise Co., VA, your Elizabeth and William Beverly were listed with a couple small children and Elizabeth age 23, born in NC.In the same Wise Co. census there is a listing for a John and Elizabeth Baker.Elizabeth is shown as age 26, born in NC.In their household are three Gentrys -- Dorothy (widow of David, age 48) and three of her children, Mary H, Nancy, and William B.Dorothy's daughter, Sarah, is also listed in 1860 in Wise Co., but she was living with another family. It seems more probable to me that Elizabeth Baker is David's daughter than Elizabeth Beverly.
David's family is listed in the 1850 Scott Co., VA census with David still living. The family shown there includes David's daughters by his first wife -- Jane, and Elizabeth, (born in [Ashe Co.] NC), and children of David and Dorothy --Sarah A., Nancy, and Wm B. (born in VA).Two other children present were James G and Mary H who were probably children of Dorothy by her first husband. David had three other children by his first wife -- William, Janet, and Ephraim -- who had left the family by 1850.
Do you happen to have any marriage records that would confirm that your Elizabeth was a Gentry?
