These are your words below:

"I am writing some of this also for the benefits of others who may be reading:

The main reason I was doing the research, so I can give something to the families that will be useful for years to come.

I would not be able to enjoy finding out things just for myself to know. There needs to be a better purpose for all this work.

I know that many people have worked a lot harder than I have, and too hard for it not to have some purpose other than just reading it yourselves.

Thanks to all the ones that have shared information over Genforum. Dave, I noticed a while back that you have shared a lot with others, too.

That's what it's all about."

That last line pretty much says it all! Most of us get into genealogy research to locate all those family members who came before us.

We call it 'Famly History' and we do it, as you said, not for ourselves, but for others who do not have the time or resources to do it for themsleves, but as a way for the current generation to pay homeage to those ancestors who came before us.

Those people, who over the cenuries, through perseverance, hard work, and much effort, made it possible for this current genberation to be here today.

I was lucky enough to come across another 'Gentry' researcher a couple years before I was due to retire who was dedicated to researching 'all things' Gentry.

After I retired, I too made researching 'Gentry' ancestors my full-time hobby. We work hand-in-hand and bounce new information off each other so we can hopefully filter out most of the data that is incorrect.

We are more than hapy to aid anyone who is researching their 'Gentry' branch of the family tree. We discoveed that about 95% of the folks with the 'Gentry' surname in the United States descended from one individual who landed on the American Shore in the 1600's.

It is a monumental task to compile data on all things 'Gentry' but a lot of fun as well. We are constantly seeking out obituaries, cemetery records, social security records, etc and when ever we come across a person with the last name of Gentry, that info gets entered into our respective databases.

None of this would be possible today with out the invent of the personal computer, modern genealogy software, and the all import World Wide Web (a.k.a. The Internet)
