Glad to hear of someone else researching the Gentleman name. I was aware of the Gentleman Clan in Kerry. My Gentleman line comes from the protestant north side of Ireland but I would love to get any information about your Gentleman line. As for the origin of the name, my Protestant Gentlemans were originaly French Heugonots that were forced to leave France and my line settled in north of Ireland with the other Protestants. Their original French name was Gentilhomme. So they just translated it to english. I am not sure about your Catholic Gentleman but it could have a similar origin. I would be willing to exchange Gentleman information if you like.
