Ray,
My second great grandmother was Eliza Gentleman, born about 1803 in County Kerry, Ireland. About 1823 or 1824, she married Myles Sheehy, who was born in County Limerick. I wrote to the Limerick Regional Archives for information on this family. They found baptismal records from the Roman Catholic parish of Kilcornan. Cecilia, Godman, and Anne Gentleman were sponsors for three of Eliza's children. There was also a William Gentleman having children baptized in the same parish in the 1840's. They also wrote that "Gentleman would not have been a common surname in Limerick in those days". I have been very curious about this name, and would like to know what you can tell me about it.
