I believe that the surname came from the trade or proffession that a family was in. It came as far as i know from England back in the dark ages.Samples,
Jack Smith=Jack the smithy or Blacksmith.
My family goes back to the war of the roses
I have a family coat of arms so ithink that somewhere back along. there was a gentleman
somewhere in the family.If you study most surnames with imagination you can usualy come up with a pretty close answere to your queation. Good luck AG.
