I am curious as to whether or not their could be a connection here. Although I don't think that my Matthias Gensel served in the Revolutionary War, as he died in April 1759...a little early for that. However, I believe that his son, John, had a son named Matthias, and that he could be the one referenced in the war records. I just don't know that he would've served in Pennsylvania, as John had moved on to Charleston North Carolina, and from what I have, apparently stayed there.
I still have alot of research to do on this family. I haven't done too much, aside from what I have Matthias, and his children John and Charlotte. I will let you know if I find anything further. I am interested in your information on Gensel's in Germany. I think that we may connect there.
Feel free to email me personally, [email protected]. I just returned from vacation, so I will go through my info., and see if I have anything further that would be useful to you!
Thank You!
