Let's back up. As I recall, you were asking how to use the Family Finder feature at Genealogy.Com. You were trying to narrow down the search feature by putting more information in the fields that are available, Right?
Some of the results that you would receive, may or may not provide "hits" where a subscription may be required. Other results may lead to User Home Pages and other Free 'hits".
I tried to explain, from what I have seen, using the Family Finder on the web, that entering more fields may not help narrow down the results as you and I might expect.
I think that I mentioned how I use that feature.
I then suggested, again, this is only how I do my search, is using the Online Family Finder Report that is built into the Family Tree Maker program. You get to the OFFR from the View, Family Finder menu, and selecting the Online version rather than the CD version, which you said that you knew about.
Either of those may, again, lead to subscriptions or CDs that you may or may not have. You indicated that you thought that these were only sales tool. That may be true, but I view it as a tool to see which, if any, of the CDs or Subscriptions I may consider to purchase. Which one would give me results that I could use in my research.
Bottom line, no matter how we search, we may run into something to buy. But, there are 'free stuff' in those results.
I just choose, with the exception to the Census, to use the OFFR. The results are presented a little better.
The Genealogy Library is still around. There was no move to any place else. The Local and Family History section was in addition to the GLC. Yes, that haven't added as much new information as they did when it first came out. The L&FH is actually an agreement between Genealogy.com and another company.
