Which version to get...advice please...

I am currently using Generations version 4.2 and I love it, but I am thinking of upgrading to either Grand Suite version 8.0 OR the Liberty Edition version 8.5. Now, if I understand correctly, there is a patch that upgrades both of these versions to 8.5.1. Is the patch still available? Also, is there any difference in using the patch to upgrade from 8.0 or 8.5? I would be running it on Windows XP. I have an opportunity to buy either one of these still in the box with all the CDs and I am looking for advice on which one I should get. Also, would I be able to transfer data as a family file without having to convert it to a GEDCOM? Because I am afraid I'll lose some info if I have to convert to GEDCOM. Thanks in advance.
