Yes, I have XP. Have been using the Broderbund Generations since August on XP and everything seems OK so far. I printed a couple reports and charts with pictures. I don't see any problems. I did not have the new version in time for all my summer reunion work - so I have not put it to a full test. But I have printed enought on the new software version, and I am satisfied that my data is OK and I can still get all the reports and charts I want (or at least all the ones that I used to be able to get in my old 8.0 version).

I wish there were more color choices for charts but I think that is just a limitation in Generations. I want to be able to choose from an entire range of shades of color (like in Powerpoint) not just the list of boxes given.

What are your thoughts about the future life of this software? I am worried about how many years we have before it will not work with some new generation of Windows upgrades. It is still the best software, but if there is never going to be an upgrade - then we are eventually going to have to GEDCOM to another program (a horror I don't want to think about).

I don't have near the number of names etc as some. But with over 3000 names and tons of sources, I dread having to GEDCOM to an inferior product. But if our work is to survive to future generations - that will only be possible if we are using software that is also going to survive to the future and be compatible with new equipment (I don't have the expertise to keep a dinasaur computer working in the future if Generations at some point won't work with future equipment).

I really am torn about this whole issue. So for now I am staying with Generations, wishing that someone could but it, and hoping that it will stay compatible with Windows and new computers for many years.

I hope the board becomes more active too, otherwise, it makes me think that almost everyone has already given up on Generations.

Good luck with your choice.

Mary Jo
