When I called Broderbund to order a copy of v8.5a today, I was told they no longer have the product. I read through this entire discussion group website last night and certainly got the impression the product was going to be dead soon. I just did not realize it was already dead. So now I am left to ponder what to do next about my Sierra 8.0 and if this is the time to bail out of Generations. But, like others on this list, there is too much of my time invested in this program right now.
Since so many of us have invested so much time into Generations and so many of us seem to prefer this product over any others on the market, what does it really take to keep the product going? Can the rights be purchased from Genealogy.com? Is the amount unthinkable?
There seem to be so many smart people on this list regarding Generations and how it works and how to work out the kinks etc. Maybe this is a chance for us to gather together and invest in something. I don't have money, but if everyone joined together is there a way to own this software collectively to keep it up to date.
Does anyone have experience in this type of thing? I have been in the business world for a long time but I do not have technology business experience. But the more I read on this discussion group and the more I think about this, it seems like this is an opportunity being missed. There seems to be a market - what would it take for us to keep it going?
Has anyone considered this before?
