That is a common problem. The program does not know in advance if you are going to edit or add anything, so it needs the permission to write to the file.

Even if you do not alter anything, when the program closes it marks a small flag in the file that is was safely closed. If it does not see that flag when it reopens the file the next time it assumes that there was a problem with the program or the operating system and goes into the data validation phase :-)
