I have converted some Generations files to FTM files, primarily to use their PDF-creation and a few other features not in Generations. The most obvious thing I lose is the sources entered in Generations, which really disturbs me. Names, dates and locations usually transfer ok, notes are sometimes distorted, but can be read and fixed. I am able to make the charts I want. I know the sources are in the Gedcom, because when I import it back into Generations, they are there.

This failure of FTM to import the sources makes it unacceptable as a permanent alternative for my Generations files, which I would still like to find. While I really like Generations, I am concerned that it no longer appears to have software support and may eventually be incompatible with newer versions of Windows.

My sources are entered in Generations in the freeform text format, rather than the templates they have. My goal is to convert several sources to the template format and try converting the files into FTM, PAF and other programs to see how they come out. If anyone has experience or suggestions, I would be interested in hearing them.
