Harry,
I understand your frustration, but as with all software it is important to keep registration codes in case you need to reinstall. You can't really blame other people if you have lost your code and your supplier can no longer help you. As for support, we support Generations v8.5a, and all of the family history software that we supply, including Family Tree Maker.
We provide our customers with free unlimited technical support and advice by telephone or e-mail, normally 8am to 8pm 7 days a week.
I don't think that you can get better than that.
