Bobby,

Melanie was asking specific questions, and I answered those questions one by one. She was not asking about opening a family file on a CD.

I do not fully understand the remainder of your message, but this should help explain it all.

Please be aware that it is impossible to open Generations .uds family files directly from a CD. You have to copy the file from the CD to your hard drive and open it from there. This is because Generations needs to read *and* write to the family file all of the time it is open, which is not possible if the file is on a CD-R disk. The read only topic is a red herring. Windows XP automatically removes the read only attribute when you copy the file from a CD-R disk to the hard drive.
