Medical question

I was born in 1943. Is there any chance at all that the hospital records still exist somewhere? Has anyone ever tried to find records this old? It was Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. It used to belong to the Mercy nuns. I don't want to bother going through their system if there isn't much chance of results.
