Anyone familiar with Army Air Corps documents - circa 1947?

One of my 23andMe matches has minimal information about a relative, so I do not know all the whys and wherefores about the lack of information, but now I'm curious . . .

They have a Surname and a couple of possible first/middle names; and that the person died in the course of duties in 1947.

Would there be a list somewhere of everyone on active duty in 1947? Ancestry.com has something going to 1946, but I didn't see anything beyond that (though maybe I missed it).

It's a relatively common surname, so I know the list would be long, but it would be a start where there seems to be nothing else.

Many thanks for any guidance anyone might be able to offer for this shot in the dark!
