Hi Jake,
When you are working primarily with sources where family members are informants (obituaries and even death certificates), there can be some pretty unbelievable mistakes. Family members do not always keep up with all the specifics (particularly if you have grandchildren as informants).
It is going to take a bit more detective work to lay out what sources are giving you which information . . . attempting to figure out who, most likely, was the informants . . . and from there reaching a conclusion about which information is more accurate. (Confirming with official records where possible . . . although, as I said, it is not unusual for death certificates to have mistakes with the place of birth, parentage, etc.)
Another possibility with the Campbell/Little mix up is that whomever wrote Esther's obit got the Campbell surname correct but mixed up Mr. Little's first and middle name.
