Thanks to everybody who replied with advice on this. I have started scanning the documents and photos, and I will be posting them to the relevant forums when time allows -- hopefully this weekend.

One thing that a couple people mentioned is posting that I have the documents and getting people to contact me privately for more information. There must be a good reason for this suggestion that I am not seeing. What is the advantage to doing this instead of just posting all of the information publicly? As I said before, genealogy is new to me, so some of my questions will be very basic.
