Dear Linda, I too have relatives that arn't in the census. I did find them in the deeds and probates, tho. I think they went on vacation and just missed the census each time. You know go camping or blackberry picking and be gone for a couple of days? The census takers today, that I've met have asked me a couple of times in my life, if we know our neighbors, and I have said yes. I name the names and they write them down. It is a good thing I know how to spell their names too! I have not read a cenus done in winter or spring. If my memory is well, I had the impression that most people came around in the summer. Many people might have lived far in the country I wonder if the census people tried and didn't find anyone home, or the dogs scared them-to not go further. So many possiblities. I am sorry you couldn't find your relatives. The 1890 census sure has made life difficult. I just hope there is never a fire like that again. What I like about the computer world is that many people are saving and printing their information so hopefully others have copies IF a disaster happens like a tornado or fire or something of Mother Nature's power on the original documents. What a relief to have the interent for all. It really is a great tool for genealogy. Sincerely, Carol Wright Notify Administrator about this message?
